V1.0 Progress



After a lengthy hiatus I am back working on my project. :)

As the 1.0 release is approaching I've been focusing on performance optimization. After all, I am aiming for a steady 60 fps! To do that I've had to rework my debug tooling to give me more information about what is happening in the game engine. Using that information I've reworked some systems, as well as tweaked how those systems are used in the rest of the code.

The thermobaric bomb weapons is a fine example this. It has been slowed to spread the explosion calculations across more time, allowing smoother gameplay. See the GIF at the top of the post! On the graph in the bottom right, the black lines are explosion events, and the red line is the relative framerate. It's gotten pretty stable!

I've got a few weeks of Christmas vacation from work, so I'll try to publish more updates now.
